Final Project

Final Reflection Digital storytelling offers the potential to support transformative global citizenship education (Truong-White & McLean, 2015, P1),  and when these tools are given to the students they can take my example and create stories of their own (ISTE 1.7.a, 1.7.b, 1.6.a, 1.6.c). The general consensus among scholars is that global citizenship education equips learners with skills, values, and knowledge to navigate in an independent world and work collectively to global problem solving tasks. Digital storytelling was not, at the time of publication, mainstream within K-12 classrooms. In my own experiences, between 2018 and 2024, more technological tools have been incorporated within curriculum at the collegiate level than they were when I began college in 2015. Digital storytelling leads participants through a process of sharing lived experiences in a story circle that results in a blending of personal narratives with multimedia content (Truong-White & McLean, 2015...

Week 5 Blog Story Plan Finalization

This weekend I will be putting pencil to paper and physically doing the drawings for the story book. This gives me the opportunity to flesh out the character designs and really fine tune what I want them to look like. Once the designs are completed then we are going to convert it to digital media by photographing the drawings. Once they are all photographed I can run them through Procreate and start with line drawing, underpaint, and detailed painting. This will get the bulk of the work done. Once the drawings are converted and completed, then I can fine tune the script and prepare it to be transposed over the drawings so that I have a digital mock up of what will actually become a published children’s book. Once the digital artwork is complete, the script is revised and added to the drawings, I can work out placement and page design in BookCreator. The way the program works is when the book is done it becomes an EBook that opens in Books on my Mac and iPad. I don’t need any assistanc...

Project Plan

The story I would like to tell is the beginning. It is an introduction to characters that will come up again so we are meeting our characters for the very first time. We enter the story through Miss Teacher, the first human from the village to teach at Hemlock Elementary in more than a hundred years. In her class she is introduced to Molly Marsi a trans mummy with lesbian mummies, Sammy Stein a Jewish werewolf living with his mom dad and 6 brothers, George Gillman a lagoon creature of greek descent living with his mother and sister, Gina Gorganna a gorgon who lives with her mother and two aunts her father was accidentally turned to stone and lives in their garden, Alex Abramovici a catholic vampire who lives with his dad. There are more characters to be added down the line, and I can customize it to reflect any students in my class that may feel underrepresented. The intent of these stories (there would be more than one) are multifunctional. First is to develop, nurture, and advance th...

Week 2 The Purpose of Digital Storytelling and Our Project's Place in it.

What are the things I am looking to explore in digital storytelling? The tertiary things that schools were designed to teach our students. A school is not only a place to impart knowledge onto the next generation, it is also where we shape the future citizens of the country by teaching them things like manners, acceptable social behavior and interactions, morals and ethics that should bolster what they are learning at home. My digital storytelling is geared for early educational reading instruction. The language will be designed to accommodate educators teaching the early steps of reading, and in each story, like Aesops Fables or even fairy stories by the Brothers Grimm, to teach a lesson. With the evolution of humanity and society the stories we tell may need to evolve.       The story Inequality offers a very interesting question right off the bat. How would you choose to distribute the wealth of the top 10% and the other 90%. I chose for 10% to...

Introductions

My name is J. Lawrence Carter. I'm currently finishing my final seven week block of my graduate program to earn my Masters of Education Curriculum & Instruction. I earned my undergraduate degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University for Art Studio Art in 2018. At some point in the future I would like to earn my Masters and Doctorate in Library Sciences. At present I do not teach in a classroom, I work in a group home for adults with disabilities. After graduation in December I had been planning on developing a children's book featuring a classroom full of children who are all monsters who are all different. In it we would explore ideas such as manners, ethics, respecting our differences, kindness, and universal morals. The primary creation and design of these characters can be done digitally with the end result produced on thick heavy toothed paper with ink and water color or even soft pastels. There may be a way that they could be crudely animated throug...
